Default Man Dies After 49 Hours of Computer Games

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20050810/D8BSUTG00.html

Aug 10, 8:10 AM (ET)

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - A 28-year-old South Korean man died of exhaustion in an Internet cafe after playing computer games non-stop for 49 hours, South Korean police said Wednesday.

Lee, a resident in the southern city of Taegu who was identified only by his last name, collapsed Friday after having eaten minimally and not sleeping, refusing to leave his keyboard while he played the battle simulation game Starcraft.

Lee was quickly moved to a hospital but died after a few hours, due to what doctors are presuming was a heart attack, police said.

Lee had been fired from his job last month because he kept missing work to play computer games, police said.

Computer games are enormously popular in South Korea, home to professional gamers who earn big money through sponsorships and television stations devoted to broadcasting matches.

You'd think the cafe owner would have noticed him before then and made him leave or seek help or something.

you dont think that is the same cybercafe that the guy of similar age, flaked out and dies on his way to the bathroom after a similar amount of playing (im sure it was the same 49 hours limit) in?

in which case...the guy that runs the cafe has 2 kills to his list, and may be taking no notice cause he is also playing online....unless they take shifts to watch, and its a 24 hour cafe...

Hmm... I think I could do 50 hours ...

All joking aside, you know you have an addicition if it consumes your life. Now, back to GuildWars.

The owner and other players in that cafe learned his death the same way as us: On the internet

Okay, I'll shut up.

there was something wrong with that man.. most average people can go 3-4 sleepless days before noticing serious side effects, personally ive gone 35 hours in front of my comp and i was fine just a lil tired

I spent 48 hour straight playing FFX when it came out. I had pop and chips next to me and a very comfy chair.

I'm still alive!

Never played starcraft though so no idea how addicting that is, but to be fired from work for missing days to play games... the guy needed help... if he has a family... sorry.

The lack of sympathy in this thread is depressing...however ironic. The man died playing what he loved, and some find this hillarious. Why? I would like to know.
